If you’ve hung around me any portion of time you know that I am a huge advocate for not having harmful ingredients in your house. Or on your body. The health risks are huge. Most Dryer sheets are not your friend. There are a couple brands I recommend if dryer sheets are your thing, but for the most part they are pretty toxic. The same goes for Laundry Detergent. I’ve taken a screen shot of a few commonly used laundry items to show how they rate 0 being completely safe, to 10 being the worst and known to have harmful risk. All of those chemicals heat up and go into our clothes that we wear daily - for the most part 😜. Dryer balls are the hero answer!
I add drops of essential oil to my dryer balls to get my clothes to smell delicious. Side-note on that, let the drops of oil sit on the ball prior To putting them in the dryer. I usually add my oil to the ball when I start the load in the washing machine and let them sit next to the dryer or inside the dryer while the wash cycle does it’s thang. Then I cross my fingers and hope I remember that I put a load in the washing machine in a timely manner!
Let’s Talk Oils
This brings me to my second point. Oils for Laundry. I noticed as I was checking out, Amazon suggested an additional item that is “frequently purchased“ with these dryer balls to add to my order. Lavender essential oil. Please for the love of your health and all things quality don’t add this to your order. It is NOT real Lavender. Plain and Simple. Knock-offs are Tacky, but not unhealthy. Don’t settle. Lavender is the most adulterated oil, and finding the real deal is important.
Why are chemicals, solvents, and extenders used to make products? Simply put, to save money.
It’s cheaper to manufacture products that have fillers, binders, extenders, synthetics etc. This day in age, I don’t care what you buy, you’d better be sure you know the company you are buying from and the true ingredient profile. Not what it is marketed as, but what the label actually reads. Otherwise, you’re putting yourself at risk. And fueling the fire by financially supporting this mess. Those products aren’t made for you, they’re made for big companies to make money off of you. I realize that now essential oils are suddenly within the past 10 years “a hot topic” and there are people and companies out there “innovative“ enough to learn how to use chemicals and solvents and extenders, or even gone as far as to learn how to create lavender in a laboratory to sell “oil” to vendors to market as pure. Big corporations pulling the wool over the eyes of consumers with the use of spin doctors and good marketing. Don’t be that person. Don’t play that game for the sake of saving a few dollars. You’re better than that, and you deserve better.
Young Living is the oldest and only essential oil company that offers a seed-to-seal purity standard. Seed-to-Seal is huge because it means that from the seed planted into the ground, to the seal of the bottle that plant, herb, bush, tree was never sprayed with chemicals, it was grown in organic soil, harvested at peak time, and distilled to a standard unlike any other. And, when it comes to the aversion of purchasing from the only real deal, please don’t be skeptical because it’s a “MLM.“ Every business is paying someone above you. It’s just in a business like this you are supporting your friends, and a real person rather than large corporate dogma. I am really sorry that there’s been such lack of professionalism in the industry of network marketing that people actually don’t feel supported and cared for by this type of the business model, but rather made to feel like they have to do something to be a part of it. As if there are strings attached. I can tell you as an educator, and as a distributor with Young living, as for me and my people that is not the case. There are no strings attached. My heart is to help people and that is what I do. You can shop retail or you can get a wholesale membership. The choice is yours and there is no obligation. Just like with any other company, if you CHOOSE to order frequently, there are extra perks. So of course, if you begin sourcing Young living as your store for household goods, it would make sense to sign up for such a loyalty program. But cross that bridge when you get there. The Young living loyalty program this is called essential rewards. And it really is the best deal. Essential rewards is kind of like a credit card that gives you percent back on your purchases. For the first three months you get 10% back, then 20% back up until two years in which you start getting 25% back on all your purchases. You also get free product, and with YL go free shipping. It’s quite amazing. Toothpaste, Household Cleaner, Laundry Detergent, Deodorant, Baby Care, Kid Care, Per Care, Personal Care, Makeup, Supplements … Young Living has it all and it’s all plant-based, and seed-to-seal pure. Not to mention, if you share a product you love, you actually get a kick-back from Young Living. What other store does that? Definitely not Walmart or Target!
How did essential oils have become so popular the last 10 years, and even more so recently? I mean, They aren’t anything new. In fact oils have been used since documented time began. Frankincense and Myrrh. Aloes and Hyssop. Oils.
History Lesson
Essential Oils started really being studied and brought back to the west Roughly 30 years ago by a man named Gary Young, now known as the Father of the Modern Day Essential Oil Movement. Before then they had really become a thing of the past. Big Pharma became the western way, and the Eastern way remained more Holistic. Europe and Asia were still very active in using plant based remedies, herbs, and oils for wellness. Interested in bringing this information back to the Western World, Gary Young in the late 1980’s went to Europe and studied under the world renowned leaders in the industry. A cowboy. A Pioneer. And an innovative thinker, Gary Young had a vision to create the best essential oils on the planet. And 30 years ago he started in his own backyard. He believed that nature had everything we really need to be well. Gary learned everything he could about Distillation and production of essential oils. He then came back to the United States and he planted a lavender field in his back yard in Idaho. He wanted to see if he could create an oil with the same constituent profile as that of the gurus. And that he did! In fact, when he sent his first sample back to France to be tested, they actually said it was the best lavender they had ever seen. True story. From that small beginning to where we are today, Young Living has the most variety of essential oils and essential oil blends. Young Living has three farms that grow lavender, located in Utah, Idaho, and France. And you can visit these farms ANYTIME. As well as all of the other farms all-over the world. Call any other essential oil company and ask them first if they own their own farms, and grow their own crops. They will probably say no. If they do, ask if you can visit the farm. Again, they don’t have a farm to show you. So, the answer will be no. And, if you can find a company that has an open door policy, where you could walk onto any of their farm tomorrow, please prove me wrong. If you do, Contact me and I will send you a free bottle of Lavender. I am that confident.
Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant, and it takes 27 square feet of lavender plants to make one 15-ml bottle of Lavender essential oil. As I share this, you can see why my eyes rolled when I saw some knock off lavender marketed as, a 30mL bottle pure being sold for $8.99. Ridiculous. So ridiculous. Ridiculous enough I had to write about it, because I see this all the time. And it’s a scam. Because I realize that that bottle is not what it says it is. What field did it grow in? Is it from a seed? GMO? What is the cultivation process? When do they harvest? At what temperature do they distill? We don’t know. And neither do they. Go walk in a lavender field and ask yourself, if I grew this field and put it in a bottle how much would it cost? Think about it. It wouldn’t be $8.99 and it certainly wouldn’t smell rancid. Or expire. And you would be able to put it on your skin and in your body. If it actually were pure.
True lavender. The lavender that is grown in it’s natural habitat, where it’s never been sprayed with chemicals and fertilizer. Where it’s been cultivated and raised by the sun. Grown in mineral and nutritent rich soil. That kind of lavender, it’s amazing. It can do wonderful things for the body. It is very calming and great for anxiety. It is fabulous for burns. I actually burned my hand the other night barbecuing. I had some asparagus On the barbecue wrapped in tinfoil and when I went to flip it, the oil inside with the asparagus went into the flame and it almost burned off my eyebrows! My arm was pretty burnt. I put a product called Lavaderm on it which has oils like Lavender and Helichrysm in it and took the pain away. The swelling. The redness. Today you can barely see that it is there. Lavender is amazing. Lavender is also great for scarring or even acne prone skin. You can add a drop to your moisturizer to support your face. True lavender, you can drink it. Hello lavender tea. If you can drink lavender tea, you should be able to drink the oil. That is unless, it is not true lavender. Most lavenders aren’t. Hence why you cannot ingest it. Young Living Lavender, you can ingest. Young Living has gone as far as to create an entire separate label to be in compliance with the FDA so that these pure precious oils can be used internally. That’s the Vitality line you see on the website. Formulated for culinary and dietary use.
I believe If we were more grounded and connected with nature we wouldn’t find it weird to ingest a drop of oregano, or a drop of lavender, a drop of orange, or Lemon, or Clove. It would actually be normal. Hence why herbs and oils are natures medicine. When we are connected with nature and we understand the healing property of these fruits plants and herbs we kindly and graciously use them for our benefit. Talk about Divine Provision. Nature! But I feel like we’re simply not all as connected to nature anymore and So we are OK with buying a lavender that says do not ingest, some even warn not to apply it to the skin and just use it aromatically. Why waste your money? It’s literally Swapping one toxic harmful ingredient for another. So if you are going to use essential oils to cultivate a lifestyle of wellness, please honor yourself honor your body honor your home and your family. Don’t compromise.
